Q: Is this book only for beginners?
A: No, I have tried to make the book accessible to beginners, but even more experienced car modders will find useful info throughout. For example, the book has a handy pull-out cheat sheet on standalone ECUs for more advanced car hackers.
Q: So, is this mostly Fast and Furious type “ricer” mods?
A: Absolutely not. The book emphasizes substantive issues over flash and fashion. Where I talk about cosmetics enhancements, I make a point of steering people away from the flavor of the month mentality and encourage keeping an eye towards the clean and tasteful look.
Q: How long did it take to write?
A: About 6 months. The original manuscript was over 600 pages long.
Q: Is that your car on the cover?
A: It is. That is my Toyota MR2 (featured in Sport Compact Car on a few occasions).
Q: What makes you such an expert?
A: I have been in the industry for some time now and seem to have a knack for translating engineering speak into easily understandable concepts that most everyone can relate to. I also have some terrific contacts that I have cultivated over the years, so my readers benefit from having some of the best and brightest in the business advise me in writing this book.
Q: Do you still live in San Francisco? Can I come check out the car?
A: I now live in Redlands , California and the car will be coming out of retirement and reappearing as a show/track car shortly.
Q: Any plans for a follow-up?
A: I may revisit this title to keep it current, but I have no plans for a follow-up at this point.
